Bankfoot House
Making our house, your home.
About Bankfoot House
Bankfoot House is a ‘not for profit’ organisation and a registered charity (SC010316). It is run by a Board of Directors, all volunteers who live in Moffat. This probably makes Bankfoot almost unique in Scotland. All of our money is invested in the care of our Residents. And we’ve been around a long time, providing residential care services to older people in Moffat since 1964.
Our organisational model and status enables us to operate less bureaucratically than larger businesses and we enjoy a flat structure & informal style.
Registered with the Care Inspectorate, Bankfoot provides Residential Care for 25 Older People..
Our house, Your Home.
Care built around you
Everything we do at Bankfoot has our Residents at its core. With only 25 Residents, we can really get to know people and provide services that are tailored to your needs, preferences and interests. With all of our laundry and cooking done on site, we can maintain the high standards that bring you the very best services.
Part of the local community
Moffat is a small town, with a population of just over 2500 people. It is a thriving community and Bankfoot is very much part of this. The town has its own theatre and an active ‘music scene’, our Residents visit the theatre and concerts. Local musicians and singers come to Bankfoot regularly to entertain Residents. We have visits from many local people, some come to visit old friends and stay to chat with everyone whilst others visit to assist with activities & entertainments.
We are an important part of the local economy; as well as being the biggest local employer, we buy locally as much as we can and have strong relationships with local tradespeople and businesses.
Qualified and experienced staff
Our Staff Team is well-trained and hugely experienced. We have people who have been with us for between 20 and 30 years. Most staff members live in and around Moffat and this is an important part of us being a key part of the local community. All of our staff receive regular training and support to ensure they meet qualification requirements.
Beautiful surroundings
The Home is in a lovely old building with a new extension, completed in 2018. The mix of old and new rooms, plus our lounges & dining room, with fabulous views to the hills north-west of the town, make Bankfoot a homely, comfortable and rather lovely place to stay.

Our Accommodation & Care charges are currently £1,400/week payable in advance by Standing Order.
Our website provides a link to Dumfries & Galloway Council’s advice on Care Home payments, dumfriesandgalloway.gov.uk/social-care-health/care-homes/residential-care-homes
We strongly advise you to read this advice and/or advice from the Local Authority where you live.
If you are assessed as being eligible for financial assistance from the relevant council then you will be assisted, by council staff, through the steps that need to be taken.
Even if you are not eligible for financial assistance from the council, you may be entitled to “Free Personal Care” (currently £254.60/week ). This payment would be made by the council to Bankfoot, with you being responsible for the balance of the fees. It is important that you establish the position on your eligibility for Free Personal Care as soon as possible.
If you are not eligible for financial assistance from the Council, it is important that you, your family and Bankfoot are assured that you have sufficient assets to meet care and accommodation costs at Bankfoot. We therefore ask that, prior to arrival, you complete a simple form regarding your finances to provide us with the assurance that you can fund your care at Bankfoot for at least 2 years. We are prepared to consider limited exceptions to this and appreciate that your financial circumstances can alter over time.
We would advise you to take advice from an appropriately qualified, independent advisor about managing the long- term costs of care .
There are council funded schemes that may provide assistance if your assets are not immediately available eg Deferred Payment Agreement and 12 week disregard.
You may also want to consider advice about Equity Release Schemes and Insurance Policy options.
It is important that you get advice on what will best suit your circumstances
Charges are reviewed annually or when deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.

We’ll provide you with a furnished bedroom, including a lockable cupboard. You are welcome to bring personal items, including furniture, if you wish. The only constraints are that all furniture must comply with current fire regulations and rooms must be safe for Residents and Staff.
“Bankfoot would be nothing without its Staff and we are proud to have, to support and to work with such a skilled and committed group of people. As a Board of Directors , our role is to ensure that Bankfoot continues to provide the highest quality of care for many years to come. All Volunteers, we bring a great deal of experience, energy and enthusiasm to what we do and we take pride in operating informally, quickly and efficiently.
